Barn doors are a noteworthy option to consider when faced with a large passage opening. Although not suitable for every occasion, a barn door can add distinctive character to a room where a passageway opening has plenty of unused wall space on at least one side.
That was the case in a San Jose home where we recently installed a set of barn doors. The opening was more than 8 ft wide, making it unsuitable for conventional doors, so the homeowner decided to go with the exotic double-barn door option, with stainless steel tracks. Because of the large opening, we ordered custom-made over-sized barn doors from TruStile.
